Elderly couple dies while trapped in home elevator

When the elevator in their home got stuck between floors, Sherwood and Caroline Wadsworth found themselves trapped with no way to call for help as temperatures rose into the 90s. They finally died from heat exhaustion in the closet-sized lift.

Autopsies on the elderly couple - he was 90, she was 89 - on Thursday pointed to a tragic end to lives they shared for more than 60 years. Police estimated they had been dead at least four days before a newspaper carrier called 911 out of concern that papers had piled up by their garage.

Investigators were trying to determine what turned an elevator into a death trap inside the Wadsworths' three-story home overlooking Georgia's coastal marshes. Stunned family members, meanwhile, looked for a shred of solace.

"We always said we hoped they would go together because if one went, the other wouldn't survive long," said the couple's son, Wesley Wadsworth of Blue Bell, Pa. "They were so dependent on each other."

The newspaper carrier called police Wednesday after noticing the unopened editions going back to July 9, as well as an untouched watermelon a neighbor had left at the couple's door the day before.

Police had to break into the house because the doors were locked and bolted. Inside they found no one but the Wadsworths' cat. Then they noticed the elevator - accessed by what looked like closet doors with up-and-down arrow buttons in the walls. Once the shaft was open, they found the elevator stuck between the home's second and third floor.

Police discovered the Wadsworths' bodies lying in a fetal position, facing each other, Glynn County coroner Jimmy Durden said Thursday. Autopsies concluded both died from heat exhaustion. Durden estimated temperatures in the elevator reached 95 degrees.

There was no phone in the elevator, leaving the couple unable to call for help, said Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering.

"It's just tragic," Doering said. "We all know one day we're going to die. This is one of those horrible ones where you're stuck somewhere."

Man with supposed ‘biggest penis in the world’ arrested

Matthew Magnus was awfully impressed with his manhood, so much so that the Hallandale Beach man decided to show it to the world.

Unfortunately for Magnus, police generally consider that lewd and lascivious conduct.

The 30-year-old was arrested this past Saturday after police said he exposed himself multiple times to both adults and juveniles, asking his victims: "Have you ever seen the biggest penis in the world?"

According to a Hallandale Police arrest report, in the first incident, Magnus asked a group of kids the question before pulling his pants down. When the kids ran away, he found another group of kids and followed them, again asking the "biggest penis" question. The kids ran away before he could expose himself again.

The children, all under 16, identified Magnus in a photo line-up, according to the report.

When police went to arrest Magnus, they found him naked in his apartment. Police said the apartment was covered in dog feces, urine and trash, and when they did a search, they found white powder in baggies, which later tested positive for cocaine.

He was charged with two counts of exposure of sexual organs as well as possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Magnus was being held in the Broward County mail jail on over $26,000 bail as of Wednesday morning.

KFC Coupon Caper: Man allegedly steals thousands of $5 gift checks

A former courier of a record storage company is in trouble after allegedly stealing boxes full of valuable gift checks from Kentucky Fried Chicken.

A routine audit back in January determined that someone made off with tens of thousands of dollars in customer gift checks belonging to KFC's corporate office.

After a lengthy investigation, police say the man responsible was the same man who was hired by the company to protect them; call it the KFC coupon caper.

12,800 five dollar gift certificates, all which could be converted to cash at any KFC, were swiped from a secured warehouse facility in southwest Louisville.

Shively Detective Josh Myers was assigned the case after auditors discovered that several boxes of the valuable gift checks were taken from Iron Mountain's locked down facility on 7th Street Road.

KFC officials also discovered that the checks were being cashed.

“We basically waited for one to get redeemed, then start tracking who redeemed it and how they got it,” said Myers.


Soon a pattern emerged which pointed police to Craig Bagby, who was a courier at Iron Mountain who was supposed to keep the gift checks safe.


Even though the theft was discovered back in January, Bagby was not immediately a suspect. In fact, he continued to work at Iron Mountain until he was arrested there Wednesday afternoon.

The $64,000 question from police was where did all of them go?

There were enough to allow anyone to eat like a king.

If someone had a $5 combo for each meal, there were enough gift cards for a single person to eat lunch and dinner at KFC 365 days a year for 17-and-a-half years.

But as finger licking good as the chicken was, police don't believe Bagby was putting it all away himself.

“I was able to track it to an individual who had bought them from Mr. Bagby and that's what led me to Mr. Bagby,” said Myers.

Airline plans standing room on flights

An Irish airline announced plans to introduce "vertical seats" for standing passengers with $7 tickets, but safety officials said the plans may be quashed.

Ryanair Chief Executive Michael O'Leary announced the plans to replace the back 10 rows in all of the airline's 250 planes with standing areas along with a plan to replace the bathrooms with $1.50 pay toilets, The Daily Telegraph reported Thursday.

A Ryanair spokesman said officials hope to begin safety testing in about 12 months.

However, officials with the European Aviation Safety Agency told The Guardian that the airline would struggle to make the plans conform to safety regulations.

"A seat (or berth for a non-ambulant person) must be provided for each occupant who has reached his or her second birthday," an EASA spokesman said. "This idea (of Ryanair's) is unprecedented and unlikely to be certified in the near future."

Maggots Fall from Overhead Bin on U.S. Airways Flight

A U.S. Airways flight bound for New York City was forced to return to the gate in Atlanta on Monday after maggots fell from a bag inside an overhead luggage bin. The airline says spoiled meat in a suitcase is to blame for the mess.

Passenger Dona Adamo told FOX 5 she was scheduled to fly from Atlanta to New York on U.S. Airways flight 1537, which was to make one stop in Charlotte. But she says as the plane was taxiing down the runway at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, passengers were told they would be returning to the gate because of what was called a “minor emergency.”

Adamo says passengers began to notice maggots falling from an overhead bin onto an unsuspecting passenger in seat 15A below. Cell phone video shows maggots crawling on one of the seats.

“The maggots, they started to drip out of the bin in row 15,” Adamo told FOX 5.
